Community ChurchCommunity Presbyterian Church of Aguilar 100 years old in 2006

At the turn of the 20th century a small plot of land was purchased by the American Methodist Episcopal Church who had been meeting in a small building on Main St. By 1906 a small white church was built & is visible in the earliest photos of Aguilar. As the town grew, it became the center of the social life of many miners and their families.

In 1935, in a joint transaction, a Presbyterian Church in Gunnison, CO was released to the Methodists & the Methodists released the Aguilar church to the Presbyterians. This followed the depression, & with the beginning of WWII, & with high unemployment in the area, the congregation struggled, & resident Ministers were unaffordable.

In May of 2007, Pastor Sam Madrid who traveled from Trinidad for 25 years, retired & The Aguilar Community Church building was sold and became the Outreach Church of the First Christian Church of Trinidad. Pastor Scott Martin has brought new life to the “little white church” so many past residents loved. He may be contacted at the website fcctrinidad.com.
